How we are helping in these challenging times

We're helpingDear PEF & PfISD Family –

Times are challenging right now, as you well know.

The Pflugerville Education Foundation’s (PEF) mission is to sustain great schools in our community by closing the gaps, investing in innovation, and building the future for PfISD students today. Never has this mission been more critical than it is now. Improving public education is vital to the future of our state as well as our area. In order to help PfISD meet the increasing challenges right now and those that lay ahead, a collaborative effort is invaluable.

While our routine may be disrupted, we are even more committed to supporting PfISD and the needs of our community. To that end, we want you to know how we are pivoting our operations in order to address immediate needs.

  • PEF is committed to providing our annual Luminary Awards for Educational Excellence. The scholarships are awarded to students nominated by their teachers or the community who have demonstrated significant achievement in overcoming obstacles in life and becoming bright lights on their campus. We will award these scholarships to seniors at each high school and PACE; however, the annual awards ceremony will not be held. We will provide more information about nomination due dates on our website.
  • In addition, PEF will award the Mott, Extended Day Program and Utley Professional Development Scholarships for students and staff this year. Applications and more information about due date extensions will be posted on our website very soon.
  • PEF provides both Mini-grants (up to $500) and Innovative Teaching Grants (up to $5,000) to our teaching staff. Mini-grant applications and Innovative Grant Applications are due April 30. Shifting to online learning has opened up whole new possibilities for education, and we look forward to even more innovative ideas being shared with us through this year’s grant proposals.
  • By redirecting some funds in our budget and reaching out to our community, PEF is focused on filling some critical needs of the school district that have arisen during this time, such as providing weekend food items and assisting with getting students connected to online learning. During the closure period, the district provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner for all students 18 and under available for pick-up at 10 locations (see the PFISD Website for more details). PEF is working with the District and several community partners to address critical gaps in funding, food and volunteers. As PFISD’s partner for excellence in education, and in collaboration with other community organizations, PEF is developing ways that make an immediate impact on families in our community. We have established a challenge grant of $10,000 to help address this need. You can help.
  • The district recently launched its Remote Learning website; however, many students in our District do not have access to technology right now. Low-tech strategies are being implemented, such as distributing paper-based learning packets. PEF is also focused on providing help with these resources for as long as they are necessary.

We are so grateful that we can play a role in our community, and it is due to YOUR support and the part YOU play that makes this possible. Thank you for all that you have done in the past for PEF and for PfISD. You have helped build the base for our ability to provide needed resources. As a part of our community, you matter to us – and you matter to all those in the PfISD family, and most importantly to the children in our schools. Reach out if you have advice, want to help, or have needs of your own. We are here to serve.

Wishing you good health and peace,
