Pioneering Spirit Award

This award is presented to an individual, family or business with a proven record of exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support, has demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and whose generosity encourages others to take philanthropic leadership roles at a community, state and/or national level. The following criteria will be considered:

  • Evidence of direct gift support
  • Impact of gift support
  • Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to take leadership roles in philanthropy
  • Participation in and gift support of other not-for-profit organizations in the community
  • Evidence of philanthropic support of innovative approaches to solving problems, especially in education

This award will be presented to an individual or family only when the PEF Board of Directors determines the above criteria have been met. Nominations can be sent to pef@pfisd.net for evaluation.

Winnie Mae Murchison was honored with first Pioneering Spirit Award for her dedication to the district and the Pflugerville Education Foundation. Ms. Murchison worked for the district for 30+ years and was the first major donor, providing the seed money to fund the Pflugerville Education Foundation and encouraged others to do the same to help get the organization off the ground.
